Once considered rather old-fashioned bungalows are now back and more desirable than two-storey living reports JANE SLADE
More and more developers are looking to add bungalows to their mix of traditional and retirement accommodation. Wiltshire Leisure Village is building supersize ones on its development in Royal Wootton Bassett and now Rippon Homes has announced it is building them on its Larches scheme in Bilsthorpe in the East Midlands.
So why should you consider a bungalow?
No stairs
First having no stairs means you won’t have to install a stairlift if you encounter mobility problems in later life and second, the difficulty of transporting furniture is removed.
Having a stair-free home also makes them ideal for young grandchildren. You can live stress free knowing they have no stairs to tumble down!
More space. It’s apartment living… but better
Buying a property all on one level offers the added bonus of making it feel more spacious. Being open plan, bungalows naturally feel bigger.
At both Wiltshire Leisure Village and the Larches you have all the advantages of apartment living and have your own garden. Bungalows tend to be built on larger plots, meaning bigger gardens and more space generally.
Investing in the future
Bungalows are becoming increasingly fashionable with all generations looking for a spacious home on a larger plot. Not many developers are building them so demand is always going to be high for this type of home which makes them a good investment.
Work is underway at a development of six new bungalows in Bilsthorpe in the East Midlands. Rippon Homes is building six offering two or three bedrooms at its Larches development. All will have their own garages and private driveways and are priced from £149,950.
Ian Dyke, Managing Director at Rippon Homes, said: “Bungalows have become synonymous with the older generation, and whereas they are perfect for those who wish to avoid using stairs, they are also stunning properties in their own right for people of all ages.”
Set in the heart of a small community and close to the National Trust’s Rufford Park, The Larches within easy access to direct transport links to London and other major cities such as Nottingham.
“Bungalows aren’t just for the elderly anymore. We’re seeing a huge increase in young professionals and families wanting to cash in on the benefits of one-level living, adds Mr Dyke.”
Rippon Homes is offering buyers a National Trust membership for up to two people when they purchase a bungalow at The Larches which is also near such National Trust properties as Hardwick Hall, Clumber Park and The Workhouse at Southwell.
