Staff and homeowners from three Brio Retirement Living developments across the UK have kicked off a mammoth hike – walking 737 miles to reach the 2024 Olympic host city of Paris by August 11

The sprightly team decided to challenge themselves and raise funds for Age UK and Age Scotland by travelling the distance virtually.

They are clocking up the miles via onsite challenges which include, daily steps, taking part in Brio exercise classes, and partaking in mini-athletics and track and field games, and more activities that are planned over the coming weeks.

Their live progress is being shared via screens around the three developments – with the walk kicking off at Landale Court in Aberdeenshire, stopping off at Beechwood Park in Stow on the Wold, heading over to Button House in London before crossing the channel to Paris.

The challenge is the brainchild of Trish Staite, Operations Director at Brio Retirement Living, who said: “We are honoured to work alongside a youthful, determined and kind-hearted collective of homeowners here at Brio.

“Always up for a challenge, we thought it’d be a fabulous way for us all to interact while improving our wellbeing and raising much-needed funds for the amazing charity Age UK and Age Scotland, along the way.

“Clocking up 737 miles sounded a tough ask initially, but everyone has set off with such gusto I wouldn’t be surprised if we smash that target and do a virtual lap or two of the athletics track too,” she added.

“I’m so proud of everyone here at Brio and we look forward to keeping everyone updated on our progress – both in miles and money raised. I wish everyone the very best of luck and will of course be donning my trainers and getting involved too!”

In partnership with Age Scotland, Age UK Gloucestershire and Age UK Sutton, the team are hoping to raise in excess of £1,500.
